Farewell to Julie Heraghty

13 years of dedication to macular disease community

After 13 years of dedication and commitment to the macular disease community, Julie Heraghty will step down from her role as Chief Executive Officer for the Foundation from 31 December 2017. 

Julie’s legacy is far reaching and the community has benefitted from her tireless efforts and passion to ensure that the voice of the macular disease community has been heard by key decision makers in Australia. 

Looking back over the past years, Julie says, “It has been a valuable and humbling experience to have worked with the Foundation and to have achieved so many positive outcomes such as raising awareness of macular disease, ensuring availability of accessible and affordable registered treatments, and supporting our clients and their families on the macular disease journey”. 

“I have been so fortunate to work with people who have enriched my life and, most importantly, shared my vision and determination to better the lives of the people we are committed to serve. 

It has been a privilege to speak to so many people who have shared their story of living with macular disease and have shown me the true measure of courage, determination and generosity.

“I am grateful for all the support, trust, guidance, assistance and participation in the Foundation over the last 13 years. It has been an honour to be the Chief Executive Officer of Macular Disease Foundation Australia,” says Heraghty. 

Over the past 12 months, the Board and the Executive of the Macular Disease Foundation Australia have worked diligently to determine the future strategic direction of the Foundation for the next five years.  

Thanks to Julie’s leadership, the Foundation is underpinned by strong financial capacity, good governance and sound leadership and is strongly placed to build upon the successes of the past, to meet its mission with confidence and certainty.  The Foundation and the macular disease community wishes Julie every success in the future.
