    Vision Voice audio: Summer 2023

Listen to our Summer Vision Voice online, or order the CD.

The Vision Voice newsletter comes out three times a year. It’s our newsletter to keep you up to date with what we’re doing on behalf of the macular disease community. You’ll also find the latest research news, upcoming events, and inspiring stories from our community. This is the audio version of the newsletter.

Our final Vision Voice for the year celebrates two remarkable centenarian members of our community who are vigilant in maintaining their vision with sight-saving eye injections. Norma and Gerald share their inspirational stories of living with age-related macular degeneration at the ages of 100 and 102.

You might recognise Gerald Buttrose, aged 100, who is the uncle of our Patron, Ita Buttrose AC OBE and commonly referred to as ‘Uncle Gerald’. Gerald speaks about the pivotal role Ita played in his diagnosis and treatment.

Norma, aged 102, is cared for by her family but also by her Ophthalmologist, Dr Paul Beaumont who treats Norma bedside in her nursing home. Dr Beaumont is one of the Founders of Macular Disease Foundation Australia and his commitment to eye health and care of people living with macular disease shows no bounds.

For those who are interested in research and therapies, we feature our annual macular disease research update – MDFA’s yearly round-up of potential treatments that scientists are working on around the world.
