World Sight Day at NSW Parliament

MDFA partnered with Vision 2020 Australia and UNSW to offer free vision screenings at NSW Parliament House on World Sight Day. This event aimed to raise awareness of the importance of eye health and having regular eye checks.

The day was extremely well supported with engagement from members of parliament, ministers and staffers including NSW Health Minister – the Hon Brad Hazzard, Minister for Customer Service and Digital Government, Small Business and Fair Trading -the Hon Victor Dominello, Shadow Minister for Disability Inclusion – the Hon Kate Washington, as well as MPs such as the Hon Tim James who is a strong advocate for people with vision loss.

MDFA’s own Meera Chandra and Vicky Heaton were amongst the optometrists performing vision screenings on the day. The event was extremely successful with 85 eye checks completed on the day and requests from participants for the initiative to become an annual event.
