About the presenters

Elisa Wang

Elisa graduated from UNSW Sydney in 2018 with a Bachelor of Optometry and a Bachelor of Science (Honours). She has since worked in clinical practice in Parramatta NSW. Elisa’s Ph.D. is supervised by Professor Michael Kalloniatis and Dr Angelica Ly. Her Ph.D. project, “Attitudes and Barriers to Care in Age-Related Macular Degeneration”, seeks to improve health literacy with respect to age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

Matt Trinh

Matt graduated from UNSW in 2014 and now lives in Newcastle. His love of learning has seen him complete a Master of Clinical Optometry in 2018 and he is now pursuing a Ph.D. By studying new ways of analysing early Age-related Macular Degeneration, Matt hopes to improve early detection and monitoring of the disease to reduce the risk of irreversible blindness.

Sharon Ho

Sharon graduated as an optometrist with Honours from UNSW in 2017 and then spent three years working at an independent practice in Dubbo, NSW. She was actively involved in public health care, servicing the local Indigenous communities and outreach clinics, and became interested in chronic eye conditions. In 2020, she decided to pursue a research career at the Centre for Eye Health focusing on how to better diagnose and manage retinal disease. Her Ph.D. explores artificial intelligence in diagnostic and referral analytics as well as in decision support.
