Navigator Library Access Funding

The Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation has granted a further $70,000 in 2008 for the expansion of the Navigator Library Access Project (NLAP) in regional NSW.

The Navigator Library Access Project (NLAP) is a community based Project undertaken in 2007 thanks to funding provided by the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF) and Profield Foundation.

In 2007, 22 libraries in NSW partnered with the Foundation to make 330 Navigators available through the local library to 288 people who are vision impaired because of macular degeneration.

This new funding for 2008 will provide 10 regional libraries in NSW with funding to start the Project. This will include providing Navigators, product licences and access to the Audio-Read catalogue for the first year.

The funding will also provide for 6 professional development days with librarians from partnering libraries to network and share ideas concerning Project delivery.

The Macular Degeneration Foundation is indebted to the Vincent Fairfax Family Foundation (VFFF), the Profield Foundation and all Librarians, Volunteers and Supporters who have enabled this program to improve the quality of life and independence for those with macular degeneration.
