During Macular Degeneration Awareness Week retired pharmacist Melvyn Byrnes shares his experience of living with macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness and severe vision loss in Australia.
Melvyn was diagnosed with wet macular degeneration in 2007 but considers himself fortunate, as he can still read, drive a car and continued to work until a few years ago. He is acutely aware that if he hadn't known the symptoms of macular degeneration, which originally appeared overnight, and he hadn't had an Amsler grid at home, he'd be telling a different story.
You can order a FREE Amsler grid through our resource centre or call 1800 111 709.
