May is Macular Disease Foundation’s Macula Month, an annual awareness campaign to raise the profile of macular diseases. We are, however, in extraordinary times. And as such, our program has been redeveloped to support our community through the COVID-19 pandemic as well as to raise general awareness about macular health.
Macular Disease Foundation Australia (MDFA) is committed to providing up-to-date, accurate information about the availability of eye health services during the COVID-19 pandemic.
We recognise our role to provide general support to the macular disease community. Many in our community are elderly, vulnerable, and may need help with social isolation strategies and general wellbeing support while also ensuring they maintain urgent and essential treatment to retain their vision.
For eye health professionals
We would also like to provide you with communication resources, to enable you to quickly and clearly communicate key messages with your patients who are part of the macular disease community.
Macula Month toolkits
We encourage you to continue to refer your macular disease patients, their families and carers to us through the National Helpline on 1800 111 709.
MDFA has resources, such as Amsler grids and Macula Menus, to maintain good eye health in this time of social isolation. Please
order resources to send to your patients, or refer them to the MDFA website to order directly.
Please feel free to share and thank you for your ongoing support through this time.
