Friends of the Foundation are members of the community who live with a macular disease and support the Foundation's work. Family members and carers of people with a macular disease and their carers are also invited to become Friends of the Foundation.
Some of the ways that Friends of the Foundation can show their support include:
- Speaking to the media from time to time
- Helping the Foundation with practical tasks during Macular Degeneration Awareness Week
- Speaking at education sessions and other events
- Assisting with advocacy
Another effective way Friends of the Foundation support the macular disease community is by telling their stories. In doing so they share valuable information and remind others that they are not alone. With permission, these stories are published on the Foundation’s website and are used through the media to reinforce important eye health messages within the community.
