In support of Macular Degeneration Awareness Week 2016 (22 to 28 May 2016) the Hon. Michael Ferguson MP, Tasmanian Minister for Health, had an eye test and macula check by Associate Professor Nitin Verma AM.
The Minister reminded Tasmanians over 50 to have an eye test, and Dr Verma highlighted the importance of early detection to save sight.
“Well over a third of Tasmania’s population is over 50 which means many are at risk of macular degeneration. It is estimated that more than 28,000 of these people already have some evidence of the disease,” said Minister Ferguson. “I urge all the baby boomers to have an eye test and macula check. It’s simple and it could save your sight.”
