Macular Disease Foundation Australia has released an information booklet on diabetic eye disease.
The comprehensive book is available free of charge to members of the public and it is especially relevant to those who have diabetes.
Julie Heraghty, CEO of Macular Disease Foundation Australia, says regular eye examinations are essential to preventing diabetic eye disease which can lead to irreversible vision loss.
“Diabetic eye disease can progress to advanced stages without any effects on vision and so it often goes unnoticed,” said Julie. “Once symptoms develop, vision loss can occur rapidly and can be permanent, which is why regular eye examinations are so important.
“The good news is that almost all cases of sight-threatening diabetic eye disease can be avoided by careful diabetes management, having regular eye checks, and obtaining timely treatment.”
