Community Action Day
The Macular Degeneration Foundation's annual Community Action Day saw over 20 staff and volunteers brave the weather at Martin Place in Sydney to help raise awareness of macular degeneration.
"It was an excellent day, we had fun giving out 5,000 yellow kiwifruit along with the message to eat well for eye health," said Alex Lewis, Education Officer at the Macular Degeneration Foundation.
Yellow kiwifruit was the perfect giveaway as it is high in Lutein, an antioxidant particularly important to maintaining macula health. Passersby were delighted to receive the gift along with learning more about macular degeneration.
"We took over Martin Place to raise awareness of MD and to spread the key message of getting your eyes tested and macula checked," added Ms. Lewis.
Our thanks to Zespri for donating the kiwifruit, and to Suncorp for the wonderful corporate volunteers.
"I had a great experience and hope that now more people are aware of macular degeneration, " said Daniel Fung from Suncorp.
