War of the Roses starring Cate Blanchett
The Perth International Arts Festival is the oldest annual international multi-arts festival in the southern hemisphere and annually offers some of the world's best theatre, music, film, visual arts, street arts, literature and free community events. The three-week long Festival will run from 13 February to 8 March 2009 and attracts more than 300,000 patrons to events in Perth as well as in the Great Southern region.
The 2009 Perth International Arts Festival will run two productions with audio description. The War of the Roses starring Cate Blanchett will play on Sunday 8 March at 1pm and 7pm at His Majesty's Theatre, and Antigone will play on Saturday 7 March at 2pm with audio description.
The audio description service available over headphones. This means that at suitable points in the play a narrator will describe the action on stage, what the scene looks like and how the characters are interacting. In addition, before each of the shows there will be a tactile tour which will take audience members onto the stage, describe the scenery and costumes to them and let them handle the props.
Audience members who would like to receive the audio description service and the tactile tour need to advise that they would like these services when they book their tickets. Tickets to these productions are available through BOCS outlets and agencies. See www.perthfestival.com.au or call (08) 6488 5555 for a full list of BOCS outlets and agencies.
