Forest Hill Lions Club Roth Gair Charity Golf Day 2009
The Lions Club of Forest Hill has raised over $8,000 for the Macular Degeneration (MD) Foundation following the success of their Second Annual Roth Gair Charity Golf Day. The Golf Day was held on Sunday 8 February 2009 at the Rosebud Country Club.
The cheque for the amount raised was presented to MD Foundation Victorian State Chair Dr Wilson Heriot at a special event on Wednesday 24 June by Mr Les Jones of the Lions Club of Forest Hill. Dr Heriot spoke of the risk factors and impacts of the disease and the importance of organisations such as Lions in assisting the MD Foundation raise awareness of the disease.
The late Roth Gair was a member of the Lions Club of Forest Hill and had Macular Degeneration. Event organiser Mr Ian Kennedy saw firsthand the debilitating effects MD had on Mr Gair's quality of life as well as the impact on his family and friends. A humble and passionate man, Mr Kennedy and his team of supporters have again raised valuable funds for the Foundation's education and awareness projects.
Lions have long held a reputation of outstanding contribution to eye health causes, and the Macular Degeneration Foundation is thankful for the recognition of such an influential community service organisation.
With activities for the Second Annual Roth Gair Charity Golf Day only just finalised, Mr Kennedy and his tem are already making preparations for next year's event. The MD Foundation is incredibly grateful for the tireless efforts of Mr Kennedy and his team and would like to offer our sincere appreciation for all they have done to raise awareness of MD in Australia and support the Foundation.
The Third Annual Roth Gair Charity Golf Day was confirmed for Sunday 7 February 2010. For more information on this event, contact Mr Kennedy on 0419 325 780 or ian@hottopic.com.au.
